Advice and instruction. "...For very young children head dresses work best since they don't cover the children's eyes. To keep headresses from slipping down, staple a third strip of paper over the crown of the kid's head (from forehead to back of head). Decorate with feathers, crayon, tissue paper, etc."

Thursday March 1 and Thursday April 12 LENTEN TRANSFORMATIONS Workshops for those wanting to be creative -- and wanting to help others be creative -- with the spiritual quest through Lent. Teodoro and Esther Dragonieri are world-renowned artists who connect the creative process with Christian spirituality using masks to explore deep questions such as those posed at Lent. (1) Mystery of the Mask [March 1] The use of masks has always been a spiritual act. Traditionally, for instance, Carnival ran from immediately following Christmas to its climax just before Ash Wednesday, on the threshold to Lent. In this workshop you will be introduced to the historical and theological significance of masks. While exploring the spirit of Carnival you will also create your own mask. Cost: $85. [$90. after Feb. 8] (2) Power of the Mask [April 12] Masks are experiencing a revival in western civilization because no other inanimate object is so universally successful in riveting the attention, stimulating the imagination and arousing deep emotions. Bring your Lenten time to a close and prepare for Easter by exploring the transformational power of playing with Commedia dell'Arte and Neutral Masks. Commedia dell'Arte was a popular form of improvised street theatre which originated in Italy in the 16th century and subsequently influenced Shakespeare, Moliere and others. Explore your imagination with a series of exercises, games, meditations and discussions. (Comfortable clothing is recommended.)

MASK Taught by Jim Calder The mask reveals what the face conceals. Through the mask we are free to explore the inner world, and the external life of, ourselves and the character. Responsiveness and listening are enhanced through the work, as is the actor's sense of play. Neutral Masks, Lavel Mask (a Swiss Mask slightly past neutral), character, and Commedia Masks are used. Usually voice and text are included. 10 weeks. Once a week.

Performing in the street demands a lot of the voice. Many practitioners of street theatre deal with this aspect of performance by relying overwhelmingly on a visual presentation. We don't share that view. While there is a limit to the number of people that can hear you at any readymade site it is still feasible to present a show driven by dialogue if the performers are trained to get the best out of their voice.

Below are written instructions on how to create your own Halloween type masks. Please don't confuse this technique with foam latex as these are two completely different techniques. Liquid Latex Mask making is also called "Slush Casting" because you pour liquid latex into a mold and swish it around, the latex clings to the mold walls and forms a skin, it is this skin that becomes the mask. Foam Latex is much more complicated and is the kind of technique that's used in film work. Quality masks and molds are only constructed after knowledgeable experience, get some good books or a video on the subject if you intend to seriously pursue this discipline

By DAVID COSTELLO Noel Camp leans into another stroke of his #7 fishtail chisel, shaving away penny-sized flakes from the basswood mask like ice cream under a warm spoon. Working with the grain, the high school sophomore removes wood chips from around the left eye, its socket still gazing off in roughhewn blindness. A chisel-pocked forehead hides details yet to be carved. Defining each facial feature will require numerous passes of the chisel, hours of sanding and a coat or two of complexion-revealing stain.
