Agostino Dess? is born in 1952 in Serdiana (province of Cagliari) in Sardinia where the mask has a traditional importance as testified by the ?mammutones? mask and the ?sartiglia? mask. In Florence he found the ideal artistic atmosphere in this exceptional city of art. He opened his own workshop here in 1979.Since 1997, His daughter, Alice, has also been actively involved in their historic Florentine workshop, organizing "international mask-making workshops" (the last week of every month) on the practical techniques of mask creation, with courses open to anybody who is interested in and an enthusiast of this type of art

Hanging from a wall in my grade seven art teacher's classroom, was a mask woven with Jute. As soon I saw it, I had to learn how to make it. After a little coaxing, Mr. Stumm agreed to show me how to weave my first mask. And so began my love affair with masks. For the past 10 years, I have been experimenting with and producing both woven and papier mach? masks.

My aim is to produce objects which are both beautiful and refined while being light, strong and, above all, wearable. My love of masks comes from my past work with physical theatre, dance and mime. Each piece is entirely made and painted by hand, therefore original, and is a result of a passion for art, working with my hands and the materials I use.
