The Putignano Carnival can boast two records, one being, that it is one of the oldest and the other as one of the world's longest.
One of the oldest because some researches have found records dating back to 26 December, 1394. Its fame as one of the longest derives from the fact that like all carnivals is ends the day of Marti Gras but starts unbelievingly the 26 December, with the multi-centennial tradition of the "Propaggine".
