In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre . May in Minnesota

Since 1974 The May Day Parade and Festival has been an annual spectacle at Powderhorn Park in Minneapolis, MN. Created by In The Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre with the involvement of the community, it draws together thousands of people every year to celebrate the arrival of spring.

In the weeks prior to the first Sunday in May the old Avalon Theatre on Lake Street becomes a huge puppet workshop. Families from the surrounding area, interns from around the world and friends from the neighborhood gather for the workshops and planning sessions. They come together to construct figures, costumes and floats and to develop the themes of the parade which will proceed down Bloomington Avenue to the park on that climactic Sunday.
