Cham Dancers

Cham dances take place in monasteries on certain festive occasions which vary according to a monastery's lineage. Monks cover their faces with masks representing the entourage of protector deities, historical or mythical characters. They reenact the visions of great lamas, events in the lives of saints or certain rituals particular to local tradition or lineage.
